Create spaces and channels

Spaces and channels are how members find their way around your community. A space holds related content and conversation; channels inside a space are where real-time chat happens. Space groups bundle related spaces in the sidebar.

Steps

  1. Go to Admin → Spaces.
  2. (Optional) Click New space group to create a section header in the sidebar, e.g. "Start here" or "Premium".
  3. Click New space, give it a name, and assign it to a group if you made one.
  4. Set the space access: who can see and join it (everyone, members only, or a specific role/tier).
  5. Open the space and click Add channel. Name it (e.g. introductions, wins, q-and-a).
  6. Repeat to add more channels. Drag to reorder spaces, groups, and channels.

Start small: 2–4 spaces with a handful of channels is easier to navigate than a sprawling list.

Verify it worked

Switch to a member view (or open the app as a test member). The sidebar shows your groups and spaces, and opening a channel lets you post a message that appears in real time, with threads and reactions available.

FAQ

What's the difference between a space and a channel? A space is a container with its own access rules; channels live inside a space and host the actual chat.

Can I restrict a channel to admins? Access is set at the space level. Put admin-only channels in an admin-only space.

Can members create channels? No. Owners and admins manage spaces and channels from the Admin panel.

Is chat real-time? Yes — messages, threads, reactions, and DMs update live without refreshing.
